The internship is based in the Advanced Materials Division (AMD) in Randburg. You will be working at the intersection of nanotechnology and health/environment, specifically using minerals to build tools for water treatment and disease diagnostics (like infectious and non-communicable diseases). The goal is to bridge the gap between your university theory and professional laboratory practice to make you more employable in the R&D sector.

Responsibilities

• Your work will be split between hands-on lab work and project management support: Technical & Design Synthesis & Characterization: "Building" nanomaterials and testing their properties
• System Integration: Incorporating these materials into larger systems and helping design prototypes
• Safety (SHE): Maintaining strict adherence to Safety, Health, and Environmental standards
• Management & Documentation Technical Reporting: Drafting detailed reports on findings, challenges, and progress
• Data Management: Maintaining meticulous records of project observations for audit purposes
• Stakeholder Liaison: Working with the team and external partners to troubleshoot project issues

Qualifications

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (NQF Level 7) in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• Academic Standing: You must have an excellent academic record with at least a 60% average
• Citizenship: Open to South African citizens only
• Logistics: You must be able to arrange your own accommodation near Randburg and your own transport to Mintek
• Testing: Candidates must be willing to undergo psychometric testing
